What Is The Meaning Of Stadium 974
Stadium 974 is a football stadium which is located in Ras Abu Aboud, Doha, Qatar. It was opened on 30th November 2021 and is a temporary venue to host football matches during the 2022 FIFA World Cup. After the FIFA 2022 World Cup, the stadium will be reconstructed. This stadium was formerly referred to as Ras Abu Aboud Stadium.
Why was Stadium 974 constructed?
The idea of the stadium was designed by Fenwick Iribarren Architects. The stadium is built on an artificial peninsula and sits on a 450,00 square meter waterfront plot. In honor of the site’s industrial history and international dialing code for Qatar which is +974, it has a modular design and contains 974 recycled cargo containers. The stadium’s facilities such as bathrooms and snacks are housed in some of the containers. It is the first temporary site in FIFA World Cup history and its shipping containers and seats will be removed and distributed as aid to undeveloped African countries. This stadium has received a four-star rating from the Global Sustainability Assessment System.
Why the name Stadium 974
It was first announced under the name Ras Abu Aboud Stadium. On 20th November during a launch event, it was renamed officially Stadium 974. 974 shipping containers were used to build Stadium 974 which is also Qatar’s international dialing code. The reason for the world to know Qatar’s commitment to always consider the environment when planning significant projects. After the FIFA Cup, the stadium will be brought down and transformed into a sophisticated waterfront entertainment area with retail outlets, restaurants, and other facilities. The stadium hosted its first match on 30 November 2021 on the opening day of the FIFA Arab cup which was between the United Arab Emirates and Syria.

Khalifa International Stadium
It was built in1976 in Al Rayyan by Aspire Zone Foundation. This Stadium hosted the Asian games, the Arabian Gulf Cup and the AFC Asian Cup, and other events. The stadium was expanded to accommodate 40,000 fans and it was also equipped with innovative cooling technology to help players play in a comfortable environment.
Lusail Stadium
This stadium has 80,000 capacity and it is the largest of all the 8 structures. The FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 final will be hosted at this stadium. It was constructed by Foster + Partners and Populous. This Stadium was inaugurated ending of 2021.
Education City Stadium
This stadium is surrounded by academic facilities and sports organizations. The construction of this stadium was done by Fenwick Iribarren Architects. The Education City Stadium’s design was revealed in 2014 and was completed and opened to the public in 2020.
Ahmad bin Ali Stadium
This stadium was constructed by BDP Pattern, Ramboll, and AECOM. It has a 40,000 capacity. This stadium doors opened in December 2020 during the Amir Cup final.

The Stadium is also close to the Doha International Airport and the Doha Port. The Doha Metro makes it much easier to get there. The stadium is only 800 meters from the metro’s gold line station Ras Bu Aboud. Fans should have no trouble getting to and from the stadium during the World Cup.
Stadium 974 deaths
After Qatar was awarded the 2022 FIFA World Cup in December 2010, work on the venue for the tournament began immediately. According to a piece by The Guardian, more than 6,500 migrant construction workers have died since then.
The country employed laborers from India, Pakistan Nepal, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka to construct seven new stadiums, a new airport, dozens of hotels, and an entirely new city that would host the World Cup Final. In the ten years since winning the controversial bid,12 workers from those five countries have died on average every week.

The total death toll is much higher, The Guardian said “since these estimates do not include casualties from several countries that send huge numbers of workers to Qatar, such as the Philippines and Kenya”. In addition, deaths that happened in the latter months of 2020 are not included.
The most prevalent cause of death is “natural death”, which accounts for 80 percent of Indian deaths. According to various reports, the majority of worker deaths are caused by severe summer temperatures, which often reach 120 degrees and average 113 degrees for several months. Other common causes of death include car accidents, occupational accidents, and suicide.
