Do you need to transport goods from abroad? We will advise you on when it’s worth opting for truck transport. Although it is one of the most commonly used methods of freight transportation, it also has its drawbacks.
Why choose truck transport?
International truck transport is the most common choice for companies. Just take a drive on the highway, where trucks abound. But why is truck transport so popular? One of the main reasons is its low cost. Compared to air, sea, or rail transportation, road transport is indeed the most economical. Of course, it depends on the distance, but within Europe – up to approximately 3 thousand kilometers, this form of transport is likely to be the most cost-effective.
Another advantage is a certain flexibility in terms of the quantity and size of the cargo. The trailer of a truck can be adjusted in various ways, allowing you to transport practically anything. Oversized truck transport is a bit more expensive than conventional transport, but compared to, for example, sea transportation, it will still be more advantageous and, above all, a faster option.
Speaking of speed, it also falls among the advantages of truck transport. If you have truck drivers in your vicinity, you probably know that they work continuously. They must, of course, adhere to mandatory breaks, but they spend the whole week behind the wheel, during which they can transport your cargo across Europe and return.
Lastly, it is important to mention that a truck can deliver your cargo practically anywhere. It will bring the ordered goods right to your doorstep. This cannot be said for air, rail, or sea transport.
What disadvantages does truck transport have, and when is it not effective?
It probably won’t be cost-effective when you need to transport cargo from the other side of the world. Within Europe, road transport is certainly the cheapest way. However, if you need to deliver goods from America to Europe, consider air or sea transport as well. For distances exceeding 3 thousand kilometers, truck transport may not be financially viable.
If we talk about speed, for transportation over the sea or ocean (between continents), it’s better to rely on airplanes or ships, especially when transporting cargo containers. However, there is also truck transport of containers, which is cost-effective for shorter distances.
Tip: Transport your cargo efficiently. Use an application that helps you arrange all the goods so that they fit into the truck, do not exceed the allowed weight, and are safely transported.
Another disadvantage of truck transport is safety. It cannot be said that road transport is dangerous, but compared to other forms, it is certainly more susceptible to traffic accidents. And when it comes to the environment, exhaust gases and high emissions are not in its favor. However, this naturally applies to other types of freight transport as well.
In summary, truck transport is effective for distances up to 3 thousand kilometers and within one continent. You can use it for transporting cargo of any size from point A to point B or in combination with smaller freight vehicles.
