There is an increasing amount of pressure being put on Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia to destroy irreversibly the party-line budget plan that Democrats assert is essential to President Biden’s domestic agenda.
In the last several weeks, conservative groups in West Virginia have been urging Manchin to maintain his unwavering opposition to the proposal, which can only be enacted through a process known as budget reconciliation that requires support from only one political party. Given that both parties hold an equal number of seats in the Senate, having Manchin’s support is essential to the initiative’s chances of being successful.
A political consultant in West Virginia named Greg Thomas stated, “Joe is most definitely hearing from a variety of different folks.” A large number of local and national groups with a presence in Manchin’s region are also making an effort to get in touch with him.
