During recent anti-narcotics patrols in the Pacific Ocean, the U.S. Coast Guard seized approximately $158 million worth of drugs.
Monday in San Diego, the Coast Guard Cutter Steadfast crew unloaded more than 11,600 pounds of cocaine and 5,500 pounds of marijuana.
The U.S. Coast Guard reports that the Coast Guard Cutters Vigilant, Mohawk, and Steadfast personnel intercepted the drugs in the Eastern Pacific Ocean between May and July.
The Coast Guard Eleventh District commander, Rear Adm. Andrew Sugimoto, lauded the personnel for stopping drug traffic and preventing a “significant amount of drugs from reaching the United States.”
“Their unwavering commitment while interdicting drug smugglers at sea is not only commended, but their continued efforts are unmatched,” he added in a statement.
During a press conference on Monday, Lt. Cecelia Hosley stated that at least 14 people were detained during the seizures and sent over to the Drug Enforcement Agency for processing.
