China says nothing about the transaction.
The sale of drones, missiles, and other military hardware to Taiwan for $360 million was authorized by President Biden’s administration on Tuesday.
The deal takes place when US-China relations are at an all-time high. Beijing has historically opposed Western assistance to Taiwan, but it hasn’t commented on the transaction in the open as of yet.
Two hundred and ninety-one Altius-600M systems—drones with warheads—are part of the transaction. According to the State Department, it also consists of 720 Switchblade drones, also referred to as “extended-range loitering munitions.”
The Biden administration claimed that the sale “serves U.S. national, economic, and security interests by supporting the recipient’s continuing efforts to modernize its armed forces and to maintain a credible defensive capability.”
