Officials stated Thursday that a family of four was discovered dead in their house at Georgia’s Fort Stewart in one of the US Army base’s housing complexes on Wednesday.
“The deceased are one female Soldier, her male spouse, and their two children,” Fort Stewart said on X. “Their identities will not be released at this time due to next of kin notification and privacy.”
Fort Stewart Military Police came at the family’s house at 2 p.m. on Wednesday to contact the soldier after her unit requested a welfare check. At roughly 5:30 p.m., they discovered the family unconscious and proclaimed them dead.
According to law officials, the event was isolated and there is no longer a threat to the installation, which is located approximately 40 miles southwest of Savannah.
The Army Criminal Investigation Division is examining the event and has said that it cannot release any further information at this time.
In 2019, three soldiers were killed after their tank flipped during a nocturnal training exercise at Fort Stewart. A soldier was killed in a helicopter accident at the post’s airport last year.
