According to the Coahoma County Sheriff’s Office, a guy from Mississippi shot and murdered two kids in an apartment complex.
At approximately 2 a.m. on Monday, Marquez Griffin, 25, fatally shot a 1-year-old girl and a 9-year-old boy, according to the sheriff’s office.
The sheriff’s office said that around 2 a.m., an off-duty deputy went to the house after getting a call that a child had been shot at the Summit Garden Apartments in Jonestown.
When the officer arrived, the sheriff’s office claimed that Griffin was seen holding a youngster at gunpoint.
Deputies eventually convinced Griffin to lay down his weapon, bringing the youngster to safety. The two other kids, though, were discovered soon after with gunshot wounds, according to the sheriff’s office.
One of those kids passed away at the scene, while the other one passed away after being taken to the hospital for care.
Griffin was accused of two counts of murder and two counts of severe assault.
Griffin’s motivation is unknown, the sheriff’s office said. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
