Following a campaign address on Friday, former president Donald Trump hosted an impromptu pizza party with his supporters.
After delivering a speech at the Lee County Republican Party’s Lincoln Reagan Dinner on Friday, Trump paid a surprise visit to the Downtown House of Pizza in Fort Myers, Florida.
In footage from the occasion, Trump can be seen at the local pizzeria’s cash register urging the people gathered around him to “Enjoy the pizza, Enjoy the pizza!”
Rep. Byron Donalds of Florida, who had previously endorsed Trump, joined Trump.
Trump can be seen chewing into a slice in another video from the event before asking the crowd, “Does anybody want a piece that I’ve eaten?”
In a recent Wall Street Journal poll issued on Friday, Trump flipped a 14-point deficit to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis into a 13-point lead, reversing the course of the Republican presidential primary in just four months.
In recent polls, Trump, who began his third consecutive campaign for the White House in November, has seen his position as the GOP front-runner consolidate, especially after Republicans came together to support him as he became the first former president in American history to be indicted.
The Wall Street Journal survey shows that among potential GOP voters, Trump now has a 51% to 38% advantage over DeSantis.
DeSantis hasn’t formally declared his plan to run for president in 2024, but it’s anticipated that he will do so after Florida’s legislative session, which ends at the end of the month.
DeSantis has already taken many steps behind the scenes to start a campaign, including increasing staff in Florida’s Tallahassee.
