According to sources, Tottenham rejected Bayern Munich’s latest offer for England captain Harry Kane. As a result, Bayern Munich is contemplating whether to abandon its pursuit of Kane.
Sources with knowledge of the negotiations indicate that Bayern’s most recent offer exceeded €100 million ($110 million) when performance-related add-ons were factored in.
Bayern also set a deadline of last Friday evening for a response and threatened to pursue other targets if Spurs did not agree to their terms.
Tottenham reportedly did not respond by Bayern’s deadline, but they have since informed the club that they do not intend to accept the offer.
Bayern is rumored to have conducted an internal strategy meeting on Monday, where senior club officials decided whether to pursue a deal for Kane.
Kane, 30, scored four goals on Sunday as Tottenham defeated Shakhtar Donetsk in a preseason friendly. He hasn’t yet made a move to leave the club, but he’s open to joining Bayern if the two teams can agree on a transfer fee.
Kane’s £200,000 per week deal has one year left on it. There is still some optimism at Spurs that the club’s all-time leading scorer might prolong his stay if they have a successful first season under new coach Ange Postecoglou, despite sources informing ESPN that he has no intention of signing a new contract this summer.
