You may think that vacuuming your carpet is enough. It is an excellent habit to adopt, but untreated dirt can damage your flooring permanently. Here are some top tips to keep your carpet clean and fresh:

Vacuuming regularly

One of the easiest ways to clean the carpet is to vacuum frequently. Vacuuming often improves air quality and extends the life of the carpet.

The best way to maintain a clean and fresh carpet is to vacuum it at least twice a week. It is essential for areas that receive a lot of foot traffic. Vacuuming helps prevent allergens and bacteria from building up on the surface. In addition, it helps maintain the appearance of your carpet by removing abrasive particles. As these particles remain on the carpet, they will wear away at the fibres, losing their plushness and sheen.

A good tip for keeping your carpet clean and fresh is to vacuum all areas several times and in different directions. That way, you can get rid of as much dirt as possible.

In addition to vacuuming daily, you should also ensure that you spot clean your carpet to eliminate any traces of dirt and odour.

Using a steam cleaner

A steam cleaner is the answer if you’re looking for a cost-effective way to clean your carpet. While you don’t have to use one as often as you’d like, you can extend the time between steam cleanings by using the cleaner once a week or more. Regular deep cleaning is essential, but a steam cleaner’s high heat and suction power will cause the carpet to become more fragile and can lead to discolouration, shrinkage, and odour. Call a carpet cleaning expert if you’re not accustomed to using a steam cleaner.

While a steam cleaner can help remove stains, you may want to consider the type of carpet you have before steam cleaning. If your carpet is made of synthetic fibres, consider a natural product that can be more beneficial. Steam cleaning will remove stains and allergens from your carpet.

Using a doormat

A doormat will also prevent the dirt and grime from getting on your carpet. You should place one in front of every exterior door, and even the inside door should have a doormat.

Regular cleaning is essential to keep your doormat looking its best. Changing it frequently will ensure that deep-seated dirt and bacteria are reduced. Using a scrub brush to brush your doormat will also help remove odours. If you are experiencing an unusual smell, try applying baking soda. The baking soda should be allowed to sit on the doormat for about 10 minutes before scrubbing in.

Using a vinegar solution

If your carpets are prone to stains, using a vinegar solution is an excellent way to clean them. Mix equal parts of vinegar and water, and use about a quarter cup of each for wall-to-wall carpeting. Then, cover the stained area with the solution, blotting off the excess with paper towels. The solution will neutralize any unpleasant odour and cut through stubborn stains. However, use gloves while doing this process. The vinegar can damage the fibres, so use caution.

Besides vinegar, you can also use a dish soap solution on your carpets. The vinegar and water solution works well for stains on hard surfaces but is not suitable for soft or woollen carpets. It is best to use a solution of vinegar and water if the stains are caused by blood, pet urine, or coffee. If you’re unsure whether vinegar and water can work on a stain, you can always try baking soda and vinegar solution.

Using a robot vacuum

One of the advantages of a robotic vacuum is that it can easily navigate larger rooms and can be programmed to remember where it needs to clean. The advanced models from the National Restoration Network can be set up to remember which areas need cleaning, and they can return to their charging stations if they run out of power. Some models also have apps to set cleaning schedules and can even mark areas to avoid. However, these machines are not for everyone.

Using a robotic vacuum to keep your carpet clean and fresh is an excellent option if you don’t have time to clean it manually. Many robot vacuums struggle to move on carpets due to their high pile and can’t reach every room corner. In such cases, purchasing a robot vacuum with beefy suction would be best. This way, it can effectively reach all corners of the house and eliminate all the debris.
