Since meth is an addictive drug, it’s best to avoid trying it altogether because it’s challenging to predict what could happen after your first time. Quitting is tough, but recovery is always possible.

Do you need help answering the question “Am I an addict?” or figuring out if someone you love is struggling? Keep reading to learn 5 telltale signs of meth addiction.

1. Excessive Energy

One of the most noticeable signs that somebody is doing meth on a regular basis is that they have tons of energy. Meth is a stimulant drug, which means it gives your body abnormal amounts of energy and raises your heart rate and blood pressure. If someone can go days without sleeping, then meth is almost always the cause.

2. Mood Swings

Another common symptom that comes with being addicted to meth and many other types of drugs is mood swings and irritability. Many loved ones who watch someone start their battle with an addiction report that it feels like they no longer know the person anymore. If you feel like someone is going through a lot of changes in their mood and they’ve become unpredictable, then drugs could be the problem.

3. Unplanned Weight Loss

Since meth gives people tons of energy, it’s not uncommon for them to do lots of physical activities and experience a loss of appetite. Both of these factors combined can lead to drastic weight loss in a short period of time. If someone has lost a lot of weight without intending to, then it’s best to keep a close eye on their health.

4. Hallucinations and Paranoia

Many people who take meth experience periods of psychosis where they can see and hear things that aren’t real. As a result, the user can be on edge if these hallucinations are frightening. This is why you should view more here to learn about treatment options.

5. Skin Sores

A common hallucination that meth users share is feeling like bugs are crawling all over their skin. To alleviate their discomfort, they scratch and pick all over their body, but especially on their face. This means that their bodies can be covered in sores and they tend to not heal well or fast.

People who smoke meth can also have sores around their mouths caused by irritation and their teeth can be decayed.

Nobody Has to Struggle With a Meth Addiction Alone

If you’re worried that you or someone you love could have a meth addiction, then it’s important to seek professional help as soon as possible. Overcoming meth may seem like an overwhelming feat, but there are plenty of people and resources who can help others start and maintain their journey to sobriety.
