Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has shot down any speculations linking Timo Werner to a move from Chelsea.
There were reports by Sky Sports Germany this week that The German International has fallen out with Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel. The reports further stressed that the recent tension between the two had resulted in Timo Werner seeking a move from Chelsea in search of more playing time as the World Cup approaches.
Timo Werner joined Chelsea for £ 47 million from LB Leipzig with a reputation of being a clinical goal scorer but the Germain international had failed to live up to expectation his reputation of being a clinical goal scorer since he joined Chelsea in 2020.
There were reports that Timo Werner had been included in Chelsea’s bid to sign Bayern Munich’s new defender Matthijs de ligt from Juventus.
Werner did show a glimpse of his potential later part of the last season against Real Madrid in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
What was Thomas Tuchel’s response that Timo Werner wants to leave Chelsea?
Speaking at a press conference ahead of the Florida Cup finals with Arsenal, the Chelsea manager said: “I don’t think so.
“I don’t know about it, Timo has not talked to me about it.
“At the moment I think he wants to make his way at Chelsea. He has still to prove a point.”
Thomas Tuchel wants on to stress that Chelsea needs more signings if they want to improve and compete with Manchester City and Liverpool for the Premier League.
Chelsea had signed Raheem Sterling from Manchester City and Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli. The blues will be hoping to close a deal for Jules Kounde by the end of next week amid rumors that Barcelona is the frontrunner for the French international.
The Chelsea manager added: “Somebody told me years ago and I’ll never forget, if you’re on a stairlift that is going down, to maintain your position you have to keep on walking, and this is what it is.
“Premier League and high-level sports, in general, are so demanding that if you want to maintain your position you have to improve.
“We have to do our homework. The other teams are not sleeping, we need to be more competitive than we are at the moment.”
Meanwhile, Christian Pulisic has vowed to be better after scoring in Chelsea’s defeat to Charlotte Fc.
Speaking after the game, the America international said: “I think we’re still starting up our season because it’s only our second game together. We’re still working on some things but I thought we had some good moments. They really surprised us and then with penalties, anything can happen.
“It was a big test. They looked like they were in season, in form, and very fit. They played a good match. Charlotte really impressed me, and they have come a long way as a soccer city.
“I’m pleased of course [with his goal]. There are some moments when I feel I can be even better but I’m happy with the goal.
I’m feeling sharp but I still have more levels to go to and I’m looking forward to continuing to grind and get better.”
