Arsenal saw their chance to go top of the Premier League slip away as they were defeated by their London rivalry West Ham United. The Gunners were two points behind leaders Liverpool; a win against West Ham would have taken them one point ahead of Liverpool.
The Gunners, who had dominated the game, were down by a controversial goal in the first half goal by Tomas Soucek. The ball seemed to have gone out, but Jarrod Bowen kept the ball on play, and VAR made the goal stand. Former Arsenal defender Konstantinos Mavropanos added West Ham’s second of the night to earn them three important points from the Emirates to keep their hold on playing in Europe alive.
Arteta’s boys were wasteful in front of the goal. They had 77 touches in the West Ham box but failed to convert one into a goal, a record in the Premier League. Their attackers were wasteful, and Bukayo Saka hit the post twice.
Arsenal Icon Thiery Henry claims Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus should have scored at least twice at the Emirates against West Ham.
What did Theiry Henry say?
He told Amazon Prime after game: “You knew Arsenal were going to get chances.
“Sometimes it hits the post, there is a leg on the line, or it is not finishing well.
“Gabriel Jesus could have scored two or three. He didn’t. But you have to give credit to West Ham. Not conceding at the Emirates is something amazing.
Thiery Henry was also impressed with the performance of three West Ham prayers.
He added:” Edson Alvarez, not a lot of people talk about him, what he brings to the team is solidity.
“What Jarrod Bowen did today to gain free-kicks, hold the ball, and allow the team to breathe was vital.
“The amount of times Mohammed Kudus kept the ball and allowed his team to play higher was second to none. They have done very well with the money they got from the transfer of Declan Rice [to Arsenal].”
