Did you know the process of making rubber stamps was made by accident by Charles Goodyear in 1839? He was trying to solve for the instability of rubber turning into jelly cubes when the temperature got too hot.

People use stamps to relay information, such as stamping your return address in a bold black color and creating works of art or something special with beautiful coloring. Keep reading and we will guide you through the different types of stamping inks.

Dye Inks

You will find that dye inks are one of the most common inks. They have every color you could dream of with a full-size stamp ink pad or smaller ones so you can sample multiple colors.

They also come in different types of ink pads, so you can get a harder felt-like pad or one that’s sponge-like. The different types of colors and pads will help you take your personalized ink stamps to the next level.

Water-based Dye Inks

They display all of the defined, sharp edges and bring your custom ink stamps to life.

Water-based dye inks can be used for a variety of stamp ink strategies. It’s works best on card stock and doesn’t look as good on other surfaces.

This type of ink used to be the standard and had a transparent color. They really pop on white and transparent cards that bring out their subtle coloring.

Waterproof Dye Inks

However, you should be cautious that they are hard to remove from your ink stamps, so you will want to get a cleaning solution to completely remove them.

Pigment Inks

Pigment inks are much more thick and opaque. They usually come in a foam-like ink pad so that it’s easier to pick up the thick ink.

In terms of stamp ink refill, these need to be refilled the most because the pads dry out a lot faster. You can use this ink on card stock and as opposed to dye inks, if you use lighter colors they will show up on dark surfaces.

They work well for embossing or scrapbooking because they last a long time, but make sure to dry them. There are also hybrid inks that are a combination of pigment and dye inks, giving you the best of both worlds.

No matter what ink you choose, you will want to find the one that works best for your signature stamps.
