Greg Abbott, the Republican governor of Texas, continues to send migrants to places like Chicago.
On Wednesday, the Chicago City Council agreed to spend $51 million to help with the city’s migrant problem.
FOX 32 says that 34 aldermen in Chicago voted in favor of the measure and that there was a lot of debate before the spending was finally passed.
In a statement, Democrat Mayor Brandon Johnson said that the money was needed and would be used to help refugees with things like food, housing, and staffing.
“Chicago is facing a humanitarian crisis because people and families are still being sent here and to other Democratic-run cities across the country without regard for their well-being,” Johnson said.
“My administration will do everything we can to help these newcomers rebuild their lives in the U.S. while still keeping our promises to the people of Chicago.” This funding is significant for our efforts to provide homes and services shortly, and I will keep pushing for more state and federal money as long as it is needed.
The law was passed even though the Republican governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, kept sending migrants to significant places like Chicago, New York, and Washington, D.C.
Officials think that the city spent around $102 million from January to June to deal with the migrant problem.

I want the City Council to stop voting. “I want you to vote no on the $51 million until we have a concrete plan for investing in our neighborhoods that will help the ones that are hurting the most,” said Green.
