On Friday, an 18-year-old woman from Texas was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the fatal stabbing of her newborn child. The lady had given birth to her child on her own when she was visiting family in Colorado. Authorities say that she stabbed her child.
Although Leiyla Cepeda testified that she was unable to explain why the infant had stab wounds, court documents say that the baby was quiet and not moving when she was born. Cepeda said that she was unable to explain why the infant had stab wounds. Cepeda had taken a pregnancy test approximately three to four months before the interview, and the results had come back negative. She mentioned this to the interviewer while her mother was there.
According to the arrest affidavit and the coroner’s report on the death of the baby, Cepeda’s child had many injuries consistent with a sharp force being applied to the body. According to an official document, scissors were found near the body of the baby.
According to the allegations, Cepeda has not been represented by an attorney even though she has been in the hospital since giving birth.
She was only 17 years old when the child was born, but she became 18 years old this past Friday, according to a spokesperson for the 19th Judicial District Attorney Michael Rourke. She is being tried as an adult for the offense.
Cepeda was questioned about her state of mind as soon as the affidavit for her arrest was filled out. This occurred shortly after the birth of her first kid. “She indicated that she had to find out how to inform her mum,” the investigator noted.
