Cruz also claimed he wears ‘as a badge of pride’ the designation of top Democratic Senate candidate in November’s race.
On Tuesday, Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz backed former President Donald Trump for the GOP candidacy in 2024.
Cruz, who opposed Trump in the 2016 elections before becoming a loyal ally during his presidency, said the Iowa caucuses demonstrated that there is only one authentic contender who is both ready and viable to take on the left-wing and political establishment.
“[Iowa] was a decisive triumph for Donald Trump. I have to say, there’s no place like the Iowa caucuses. I know it well. The men and women of Iowa take their responsibility very seriously. “They scrutinize the candidates,” Cruz explained.
“It’s an incredible process, and I strongly believe in letting democracy play out. Last night, Trump won by a wide margin. Congratulations to President Trump on his dominant victory. And at this moment, I believe the race has ended.”
He urged the GOP to band together in order to defeat President Biden and his “disastrous, cultural Marxist agenda in the White House.”
“I am happy to support Donald Trump for President of the United States. “I’m excited to support him,” he remarked.
After Iowa, Cruz stated that none of the other candidates have a chance of winning. He stated that while the New Hampshire primary may be fiercely contested, it would effectively be Trump’s fait accompli when he wins South Carolina.
Cruz has long been mute on his preferred candidate for the 2024 Republican primary, but as Newsweek just reported, he is also close to Trump challenger Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.
When asked about the 2023 election by the Texas Tribune, he reportedly referred to himself as a political “Switzerland”.
However, Cruz made it clear on Tuesday that he firmly supports Trump.
“I’m a firm believer that we should let the process play out: It did. And the numbers from last night: 51% [of the vote], which covered 98 counties, are persuasive. And at this time, I believe the contrast should be on content, policy, and records [against Biden],” he stated.
Cruz remarked that he is a major senatorial election target for Democrats as he seeks a third term in November.
He will face the winner of an undetermined Democratic field, which includes Rep. Colin Allred, a Dallas County politician and former Tennessee Titans linebacker.
“I wear that as a badge of honor,” he said, referring to Democrats’ continued ire and attention as his reelection campaign approaches.
“If you’re a left-wing Democrat, after Donald Trump, there’s no one in the country you’d rather beat than me. “And Chuck Schumer has made it clear that I am his number one target in the country.”
“The Democrats will spend $100 million this year attempting to defeat me and flip Texas blue. Now, that’s not going to happen.”
