Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard has named two Chelsea Midfielder among his favorite Midfielder in the Premier League.
In an interview with Rio Ferdinand the Steve Gerrard named Mason Mount and Mateo Kovacic among modern midfielders in the Premier League
When the Liverpool legend was asked to name his favorite modern midfielders he replied: “Love Jude Bellingham, absolutely loving him.’’
“Kevin De Bruyne, without a shadow of a doubt. I’m going for attacking players.
“Love Mason Mount what he’s doing. (Mateo) Kovacic at Chelsea. I love Fabinho at Liverpool and I love Rodri.”
‘If I had to pick one of them, Kevin De Bruyne, for me, is an absolute specialist midfielder.
When quizzed to name the toughest opponent during his career, Gerrard replied: ‘It’d be Keane or Vieira.
‘Both are different in different ways, but you always knew you were in a game of football against those two.
‘Makelele I’d add to that as well. When I moved further up as more of a No.10 behind [Fernando] Torres, he was top.’
‘I see bits of all the top midfielders I played against in him, I think he’s a combination of them all, I think he’s top.’
Mason Mount
Mason Mount has been sensational ever since he made his competitive debut for Chelsea in their 4-0 defeat to Manchester United under Frank Lampard.
The 23 years old England international has gone on to make 157 appearances for Chelsea scoring 29 in the process.
Mount was named Chelsea player of the season last year after helping the Blues win their second Champions League and also assisted Kai Havertz to score the only goal of the final.
This season he has 12 goals and assisted 15 in 50 appearances for the Blues.
For a Young midfielder to be named by one of the greatest midfielder to ever play in the Premier League is quite an achievement.
Mateo Kovacic
The Croatian Midfielder has been a key part of Thomas Tuchel’s side despite injury problems.
Kovacic arrived on an initial one-year loan before Chelsea paid £40m to make the deal permanent.
The 28-year-old midfielder has scored 2 goals and assisted 6 in 42 appearances this season.
Meanwhile, Steven Gerrard has criticized referee Jon Moss after the Liverpool defeat.
When Steven Gerrard was asked to respond to the comment Jon Moss was subjected to by Aston Villa fans he said:‘No comments, I just hope that it’s looked at. That’s all I’ll say. I just hope it’s looked at. I hope, I hope it’s looked at.’
He added:‘Well I’ve answered your question. I just hope Jon’s performance is looked at.
‘Listen, I don’t want to get into trouble. I don’t want to be sour. We’ve lost the game. Liverpool has scored two goals against us and we need to look at that.
‘I don’t want to cover over any cracks but, you asked me a question, and I said I hope the referee’s performance is looked at.’
Gerrard seemed happy when he was told that Jon Moss will retire at the end of the season.
saying:‘Is he? Good!’
