Spirit Airlines reported that a 6-year-old passenger who was placed on the incorrect trip during the peak Christmas travel season has left the company.
Spirit stated in a statement on Friday that an internal investigation had shown that, on December 21, a gate agent at Philadelphia International Airport had mistakenly placed the youngster on an aircraft bound for Orlando when, in fact, he was supposed to arrive at Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers.
Spirit issued a statement saying, “This agent is no longer working with Spirit, and anyone whose actions resulted in the incorrect boarding will be held accountable for failing to follow our procedures.”
“Policies and procedures in place to prevent this type of situation from happening,” the airline stated on Friday. It is also reminding its staff of these protocols.
Spirit has already expressed regret for the incident. After discovering the error, the airline “took immediate steps to communicate with the family and reconnect them,” according to a statement released by the company on Saturday.
