Tamara Potocka was taking part in her first Olympics.
After a qualifying heat of the women’s 200-meter individual medley, a Slovakian swimmer fainted, creating a scary spectacle on the pool deck at Paris La Defense Arena on Friday morning.
Tamara Potocka, who is competing in her first Olympics in Paris, was seen by a doctor after placing eighth in the third heat of Friday’s preliminary round.
The 21-year-old swimmer reportedly seemed to pass out nearly instantly after exiting the water. A half-dozen medical personnel arrived almost quickly, and she seemed as though she was given oxygen before finally being taken out on a stretcher.
