In the fiscal year 2022, 98 terror watchlist arrests were made at the southern border, breaking previous records.
According to reports from US Customs and Border Protection, the number of migrant interactions at the US southern border reached a new high of more than 227,000 in September and more than 2.3 million for the fiscal year 2022.
CBP released the border data on Friday night, marking the greatest number of interactions in Department of Homeland Security history during the month of September.
According to CBP data, 20 known or suspected terrorists were apprehended at the southern border in September, increasing the total number of terror watchlist arrests at the border for fiscal year 2022 to 98. The total number of terror watchlist arrests at the border in the previous five years was 26.
The number of migrant encounters in September was significantly higher than in previous years. There were 192,001 migrant interactions in September 2021. In September 2020, border officials encountered 57,674 migrants, compared to 52,546 in September 2019.
