Almost 3,000 people were injured by those pager explosions in Lebanon.
With a new string of explosions being reported Sunday in Beirut, a senior U.S. official confirmed to Fox News that Israel is behind the detonations of pagers used by the militants of Hezbollah in Lebanon.
The nearly simultaneous explosions of pagers used by members of the Iran-backed terror group Hezbollah left at least 12 people, including two children, and over 3,000 injured on Tuesday.
Walkie-talkies blew up, causing blasts in several parts of Lebanon, Hezbollah’s Al Manar TV reported.
Hezbollah also said on Wednesday that missile attacks targeted Israeli artillery positions following the blasts, according to Reuters.
Israel briefed the US on the incident Tuesday, in which small amounts of explosives were hidden in pagers and exploded, a US official said. The official requested anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the information publicly.
This incident came on the same day The Associated Press described multiple explosions erupting in Beruit on Wednesday during a funeral for Hezbollah members and a child who were killed in Tuesday’s explosives.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken said, “the United States, did not know about, nor was it involved in, these incidents,” when questioned this morning over Tuesday’s pager explosions.
“We’re still collecting data and facts,” the spokesperson said. In general, we’ve been very vocal—and we remain extremely vocal—on the importance of all parties avoiding any actions that could escalate the situation that we’re trying to calm in Gaza, Blinken said. “to see its escalation to new fronts. It is obvious that no party with stake in it would like to see this happen. And that again, everybody must stay away from any action that would cause this conflict to deteriorate further.”
Meanwhile, also on Wednesday, the Israel Defense Forces announced that its Northern Command forces continued “offensive and defensive activity.”
