At the beginning of this year, Republican Florida Representative Mara Elvira Salazar was a primary sponsor of the “Reject Latinx Act.”
On Thursday, Republican senators Ted Cruz of Texas and Marco Rubio of Florida introduced legislation that, if passed, would make it illegal for government organizations and the people who work for them to use the phrase “Latinx.”
Both candidates who have run for president in the past have supported a bill called the “Respect for Hispanic Americans Act,” which is almost similar to legislation introduced in the House. Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar, a Republican from Florida, introduced a bill named the “Reject Latinx Act” earlier in this session of Congress with the intention of placing restrictions on the usage of the same term.
Cruz made the following statement in a press release: “I want to make sure that our government does not bow to woke activists in any of our federal departments or agencies by insisting on ridiculous terminology like this.” “I’m proud to work with Sen. Rubio to keep it out of official government communication because it has no place there,” he said, adding that he was working on the issue with Sen. Rubio.
According to Rubio, the majority of Hispanics living in the United States are opposed to being forced to adopt “fabricated woke terminology.” Our government agency will not use the phrase “Latinx” in any official correspondence since it is considered a pejorative term often used by politically progressive elites.
