Manchester United and Newcastle United will reckon horn in Sunday’s Carabao Cup finals at Wembley. Both teams have been incredible this season in the Premier League.
The Red Devils hope to win their first major trophy under Erik Ten Hag in six years. Manchester United are also competing in the Premier League as their five points behind winners Arsenal. They book their place in the next round of the Europa League after defeating Barcelona’s 4-3 aggregate. Erik Ten Hag is also in the FA Cup.
Newcastle United hopes to end their 67-year-old wait for a major Trophy when they face Manchester United. Newcastle is experiencing a dip in form and will be without their first-choice Goalkeeper, Nick Pope. The English international was sent off in Newcastle United’s defeat to Liverpool at St. James Park last weekend.
Ex-Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has predicted his form side to brash away Newcastle United on Sunday when the two clubs meet at Wembley.
What is Rio Ferdinand’s prediction for the Carabao Cup finals?
The Premier League Icon said on his Youtube channel Vibe with Five: “Weekend Carabao Cup final, we’re going to be in there! Newcastle are going to get put down. I said 2-1 today.
“I’m going 2-0 at the weekend. Pope’s out, Newcastle out of form, Man Utd are in form, we’re on the crest of a wave but I’m not getting carried away, I’ll see you at Wembley..”
Manchester United will likely be without their star man Marcus Rashford against Newcastle United. The England international was taken off during their win against Barcelona on Thursday. This means under fire Wout Weghorst will lead United’s attack against Newcastle.
Wout Weghorst told reporters after the win over Barcelona: “Of course, I have played in some different positions, it’s also new to me.
“What I can bring to the team? I hope lots of energy, I hope the belief. Of course, I am someone who is giving a lot of effort against the ball also, try to get high pressure on the opponent, get the guys around me free.
“Of course, get myself also free and scoring goals, so that’s definitely a point we need to improve, because I know I’m capable of bringing that also to the team.
“That’s something that so far hasn’t worked as we wanted, as we planned, but overall I’m just somebody who is giving his all to the team with a lot of energy and trying to win all these trophies we’re still capable of.”
Asked why he was substituted at halftime against Barcelona, he added: “Of course, we were not satisfied. He was not satisfied. It was not the way we wanted to play. We didn’t do the things that we wanted.
“[Ten Hag wanted] more energy, more belief, more fight – fighting our way back into the match and creating good momentum, good atmosphere, good feeling.
“And I think second half, Antony came in, great, of course. I think also the match-up that was needed. We knew they were vulnerable in the back, the runs in behind, that was something we couldn’t do like we wanted in the first half.
“So unfortunate for me today, but I think the second half was a great one for us and a really good result.”
