Following the decision of the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade, Republicans in the House of Representatives are putting pressure on Attorney General Merrick Garland and the Justice Department to investigate a series of politically motivated cyberattacks that were launched against pro-life and Christian websites.
In a letter addressed to Garland, Republican lawmakers serving on the House Oversight Committee claimed that the number of cyber crimes committed against groups on the center-right is on the rise and that these crimes are designed to intimidate and silence conservative voters.
Republicans on the Oversight Committee wrote in a letter to the Department of Justice that an investigation into these attacks is necessary because they are “likely unlawful” and “clearly intended to chill the right of our citizens to peacefully express their opinions on matters of public importance as well as donations to conservative or religious organizations.” Republicans on the Oversight Committee wrote this.
The Republicans in the House want Garland and the Department of Justice to provide additional clarity on the steps being taken to crack down on attacks of this nature.
