Chelsea defender Reece James believes the ambitions of Chelsea will remain the same under prospective new owner Todd Boehly. The 22 years old also disclosed that Todd Boehly is passionate about Chelsea and wants to win more silverware with the Club after a meeting with the American Billionaire.
Roman Abramovich put Chelsea up for sale in March after being hit with a sanction by the UK Government because of his close relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The West London Club was valued at £4.25 billion.
The sanction meant Chelsea was given a special license to operate. The Blues were prevented from buying new players and negotiating contracts of players.
Chelsea is expected to announce Toddy Boehly by Wednesday after the UK Government and Premier League gave the green light for the Todd Boehly led consortium to complete the takeover process
What did James say?
Speaking via the Chelsea website he said: “It’s been a strange moment for the club with the change of owners, it’s going to be different moving forward, but our ambition is still going to be the same,’ he stressed.
“We are a massive club in the world, and our aim is still going to be to win every trophy we can. The players at this club are ambitious. You’re playing at this club for a reason. The quality is so high.
“No matter the owner, we are the ones who go out and perform on the pitch. Next season we are going to have many competitions to play in and hopefully get some more trophies under our belt. We’ve got enough quality so there’s no reason why we can’t do it.”
Reece James has had an impressive season despite spending most of the season on the sideline injured. the 22 years old made 39 appearances for Chelsea scoring six and providing 10 assists.
The England international has been linked with a move to Real Madrid but James insists he is happy at Chelsea and he is seeking to put last season’s injury disappointment behind him.
The 22-year defender has also labeled the just-ended season as his worst season with injuries.
He continued: “This season has probably been my worst season for injuries,’ lamented James. ‘I have picked up more than I ever have before.
“I don’t want to be out for people to say he’s missed. I want to play every game I can. That’s something I need to work on going into the new season. There are a few things I can adapt or change to make sure I don’t reoccur the same injury.”
James also heaped praises on the Chelsea Fans for sticking with the team during the hard times this season.
Chelsea finished third in the Premier League and also lost the Carabao Cup and FA Cup finals to Liverpool.
He continued:“Thanks to all the fans that supported us during the difficult spells of the season, none of it goes unseen,’ James emphasized.
“Next season we will need all our fans again and hopefully we can win more titles together.”
