Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino claims Raheem Star will be a perfect signing for Chelsea as Chelsea and Todd Boehly steps up their pursuit of the Manchester City star.
There are reports this week in the English media and newspaper outlets that Chelsea has officially enquired about Raheem Sterling from Manchester City. The two clubs are expected to open negotiations on Tuesday on possible transfer fees for the 27-year-old attacker.
Manchester City is believed to have placed a £50 million price tag on Sterling. Raheem Sterling has agreed on a personal term with Chelsea and is now left with two clubs to agree on a transfer fee.
Raheem Sterling has been one of the consistent performers for Manchester City since the arrival of Pep Guardiola.Sterling is the third player to score the most goals under Pep Guardiola only Lionel Messi and Sergio Aguero have more.
The 27-year-old English international scored 131 goals and provided 95 assists in 339 appearances for Manchester City. Raheem Sterling has won four Premier League titles, four Carabao Cups, and one FA Cup for Manchester City.
Tony Cascarino believes Raheem Sterling is an upgrade on most Chelsea wingers.
What did Tony Cascarino say?
The former England international said via the Weekend Breakfast on talkSPORTS: “I think they’ll do at least two big signings before the start of the season.
“I think that Raheem is perfect for Chelsea, I think that they need that kind of player.
“I love Raheem’s pace. There are so few players who can get to the byline as a wide player. Timo Werner is a terrible finisher, now some people say that Sterling’s finishing is not the greatest but he always gets chances and he always gets a decent number at the end of a season.
“I’m a bit disappointed because I thought that [Christian] Pulisic would be a really good player for Chelsea.
“He’s had too many injuries and has never quite got going. He has his moments but like a lot of the forwards at Chelsea, they’ve not really delivered in the numbers that you’d expect.
“You can put Lukaku in there, Timo Werner, I think that Havertz is not really a center forward but has been playing that role.
“He’s improving as a player but he’s not the finished article who is going to be leading the line at Chelsea all season.”
Chelsea is also reported to have enquired about former Chelsea academy graduate Nathan Ake from Manchester City.
Thomas Tuchel is a long-time admirer of the Dutch international and he is open to signing Nathan Ake this summer. Nathan Ake is a very versatile defender that can play as a left-back, center-back, and defensive midfielder.
Chelsea and Thoams Tuchel will begin pre-season next week and prepare for their US tour.
The Blues are also monitoring the situation of Matthew de ligt at Juventus. The Dutch international is reported to have turned down a new contract offer from Juventus over the inclusion of a £120 release clause in his new contract.
