Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has singled out two Manchester United players for criticism following a poor season. according to Manchester United Icon, Edinson Cavani and Raphael Varane have been disappointing this season.
Raphael Varane arrived from Real Madrid to Manchester United for £34 million last summer. The French international season was rock with injuries and has made only 32 appearances this season for the Red Devils.
Edinson Cavani was very impressive in his first season for Manchester United scoring 17 goals And making 5 assists for Manchester United. this season Uruguay international has failed to replicate last season’s form and has also spent more time on the sideline with injuries.
Manchester United finished sixth this season and had zero net goals and failed to qualify for the Champions League.
Paul Scholes believes the two Manchester United Stars were disappointing and did not meet his expectations.
He went on further to stress that with the arrival of Erik Ten Hag next season, the former Ajax coach should be backed in the transfer market.
What was said?
Speaking with Premier League Production he said: “It’ll be interesting to see how many go. Paul Pogba is out of contract, and Jesse Lingard is out of contract as well. It’ll be interesting to see how many he’d like to change, I think there’d be quite a few.
“I still think there’s a nucleus of some really good players, there are some good, young talented players in that squad.
“We were thinking nine months ago we were all talking about them challenging for the league, we were a little bit wrong with that.
“But there is a really good group of players there, I’m sure there is. Two, three, maybe four additions in with real quality coming into the squad that he needs.
“Do you know what, we go back to last year as well? We thought Ronaldo’s coming in, and Varane is coming in. You are thinking, ‘yeah, here we go’.
“Varane’s been disappointing. I think he’s gotten away with it a little bit. A lot of injuries hardly played a game.
“Cavani I think was a disgrace this year, he hardly ever played. He pulled out of the Middlesbrough game because he had to travel back from wherever he was.
“Funnily enough, since that Middlesbrough game, I think I heard last night United have won only five out of 18 games or something since then.
“It’s been embarrassing, this manager now needs backing. Who’s going to help him do that? The club upstairs is still a bit of a mess, we don’t know.
“But I think the money will be there. If he gets the right players in, gets his way of playing, takes no nonsense from these so-called big, star players then I think he’ll be okay.”
Paul Scholes is the latest Manchester United legend to call for patience with the new manager.
Rio Ferdinand and Gary Neville have also urged the Manchester Board and the Fans to exercise patience with Erik Ten Hag and back him in the summer transfer market.
