Manchester United icon Paul Scholes thinks Jesse Lingard will fit well in the Erik Ten Hag style of play.
Jesse Lingard’s contract at Manchester United expires this summer but the former England international believes that Erik Ten Hag should block Lingard from leaving.
Erik Ten Hag was officially announced on Thursday to be Manchester United manager next season, the 52 years old has been tasked to bring back the glory days to Old Trafford after the Red Devils have gone five years without a major trophy.
However, Paul Scholes believes the 29 years old could benefit immensely from the arrival of the Dutch manager and also claims Manchester United has treated Lingard unfairly.
Lingard was close to joining West Ham last season after enjoying a successful loan spell with them.
What did Scholes say?
Speaking on talkSport, he insisted that he is unhappy with how his former club has treated him and thinks the arrival of Erik Ten Hag could spark his career.
He said:‘I think Jesse has been treated pretty poorly by the club, to be honest.
‘He was ready to sign for Newcastle at one point and West Ham, right at the end of deadline day and he was told he was going to get more minutes.
‘That clearly hasn’t happened. He deserved a chance. We all saw what he did at West Ham. He’s a really good footballer and can bring goals to a team and with this team playing so poorly as well, for him not to get a chance… I think he’s unfairly treated.
‘I think he might suit him [Ten Hag] and he might want to keep him. We will see what happens.
‘It’s obvious he never wants to leave Manchester United, and if this manager wants him then why wouldn’t he stay?’
Jesse Lingard made 232 appearances for Manchester United scoring 35 goals.
Erik Ten Hag wants Andreas Pereira to be part of his squad next season.
According to ESPN, Ten Hag had told Manchester United football director john Murtough that he wanted the Brazilian Midfielder at Manchester United if Flamengo fails to meet the £12million transfer fee.Erik Ten Hag worked with the midfielder at PSV and he still likes the Brazilian.
Since Paul Pogba and Matic are set to leave the Old Trafford at the end of the season, Andreas Pereira could be a perfect backup for Fred and McTominay.
Manchester United is also ready to listen to offers for Eric Bailly, Phil Jones, Anthony Martial, Alex Telles, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka as Erik Ten Hag is ready to let them leave.
The precedes from the sales of these five players will be added to the transfer budget for next season.
United is believed to have given their manager a transfer budget between £100m-£150m to spend during the summer transfer window.
A figure Erik Ten Hag deem it too low as he prepares complete summer overhaul at Manchester United’s squad after a dismal campaign.
Manchester United will need to sign at least 5 to ten 10 if they want to compete with neighbors Manchester City,Liverpool and Chelsea for the Premier League title next season.
