If you’re in the market to protect your car against breakdowns, you may have come across Ox Car Care. But is it worth the hype? In this review, we’ll take a closer look at Ox Car Care to see if they live up to their reputation. We’ll help you decide if you should invest in one of their service plans.

Who Is Ox Car Care?

Ox Car Care is a popular extended auto warranty company based in California that sells coverage for a variety of cars at different budget levels. They are a direct provider of their warranties, which means they handle claims and support in-house, although they sometimes sell plans from other third-party administrators.

While they have not been in the industry for as long as most of their competitors, they have a solid reputation among their peers, receiving accreditation from the Better Business Bureau as well as an A+ rating. Their customers are divided about this company, but some of them laud Ox’s repair coverage, money savings, and customer service.

Plan Features & Benefits

Ox Car Care advertises three separate plans online, for which they directly administer their vehicle service contract (VSC) and fulfill claims and benefits. Depending on your location and vehicle coverage needs, they may offer you other plans.

Those offered plans are:

  • Gold plan: This is a “powertrain plus” plan that covers your engine, transmission, transfer case, and drive axles. Seals and gaskets are covered only if they are part of another repair. It’s their most basic advertised plan
  • Platinum plan: This is their intermediate plan that includes many other parts categories on top of what’s covered in Gold. Those categories are the air conditioning, steering, brakes, fuel systems, cooling systems, and base electrical components
  • Diamond plan: This plan is their top-tier inclusionary plan, which adds to Platinum’s coverage by including protection for anti-lock brakes, the suspension, high-tech electrical components, and hybrid vehicle parts
  • Unadvertised plans: Ox makes mention of two other plans online, Superior and Ultimate, but they don’t share many details about them. These plans are provided through Direct Protection Warranty Services, a third-party administrator. You should call to inquire about them if you are interested

Ox warranties allow you to service your vehicle at any licensed shop. All their service contracts come with benefits like roadside assistance and reimbursements for rental cars and tires damaged by road hazards. The company also advertises that they offer free oil changes, tire rotations, and alignment checks, though these services do not show up on their sample contracts.

They have two add-on coverage options that allow coverage for rideshare vehicles as well as cars with aftermarket modifications. Those come with an extra fee.

Ox Car Care’s plan costs are quote-based and are not advertised online. There is a wide range in the monthly premiums you might pay, from $40 to $250 a month, depending on factors such as your car’s make and model, age, and mileage, as well as your location, budgetary constraints, and coverage requirements. Deductibles are between $100–$250 per repair.

User Experience & Results

Although they have a good reputation with the BBB, the customer reviews regarding Ox Car Care are more mixed. Many reviews praise their service and claim savings, but others bring up issues with those aspects and more.

Some of the feedback about the provider criticizes their pushy salespeople, sometimes unresponsive claims staff, coverage inconsistencies, and long support wait times. Some complain of being misled about the level of covered items and features.

Ox Car Care, however, is very responsive to complaints and will give thorough explanations in cases of claim denials or partial coverage. They seem to recognize when they or their representatives are wrong and are apologetic and quick to correct their mistakes or cancel coverage when requested.

Comparison to Competitors

There are many other well-established VSC providers on the market. Top companies like Endurance and CarShield advertise a greater number of plans with more expanded coverage options. Both of those other providers cover a greater number of components through their exclusionary plans and have somewhat expanded optional coverage packages. CarShield is not available in California, however, while Endurance is. All of them accept high-mileage vehicles for coverage.

Ox’s monthly costs are more affordable for their basic coverage than those of the other providers. However, their costs get significantly higher for their top-tier plans and may match their competitors’ total contract costs.

Final Verdict & Recommendation

Ox Car Care prides itself on accepting almost any kind of vehicle nationwide while being affordable and full-featured in their coverage. They offer an attractive package of features, have a good reputation in the industry, and seem to care about their customers’ satisfaction levels.

Their coverage levels are not as comprehensive as some of their competitors, but if you have an older, higher-mileage car, you may be well-served by their warranty—without breaking the bank. Contact them for a unique quote, then compare them to other extended auto warranty companies to see who’s the best fit for you.
