A man has been arrested on suspicion of dragging a woman into a stairway and raping her in New York City.
According to FOX 5, Jamel McIver, 30, is accused of rape, burglary with a sexual motive, and an illegal sex act.
At about 1 a.m. in the morning on Saturday, McIver was accused of sexually assaulting a 21-year-old woman in a building near West End Avenue and 65th Street.
According to the police, McIver followed the young lady inside the building and into an elevator. He allegedly raped the victim after forcing her out of the elevator and into a staircase.
The suspect was seen on CCTV footage tossing his jacket after the alleged rape. The attacker then ran off on foot.
The victim was transported to a hospital in good health.
PIX 11 was informed by officials and police sources that family members reportedly turned in McIver. He was detained on Sunday at about 4 p.m.
According to authorities, McIver was previously detained for rape in 2019.
