It is estimated that less than 100 employees were affected, according to a department official.
In an article published by the New York Post, the New York City Department of Education claims that scores of teachers and administrators have been placed on unpaid administrative leave for allegedly faking proof of COVID-19 immunization.
Those who would be affected by the city’s unpaid leave were informed on Wednesday that it will begin on Monday. In 2021, Mayor Bill de Blasio of New York City will implement an immunization requirement for public employees.
According to a spokesperson for the city’s Department of Education, “fake vaccination cards are not only illegal, but they also undermine the most effective line of defense our schools have against COVID-19 – universal adult immunization.”
“We immediately placed these employees — there were fewer than 100 of them — on administrative leave without pay,” he added.
