Officials reported that at least seven people were killed in a shooting in Northern California that followed shootings at two farms and that a suspect was in police custody.
Four individuals were found dead from gunshot wounds when deputies arrived at the scene of a shooting in a mushroom farm in the 12700 block of San Mateo Road in unincorporated San Mateo County, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.
A fifth victim was seriously injured and brought to Stanford Medical Center. Soon after, deputies were called to the 2100 block of Cabrillo Highway South, close to the Rice Trucking Soil Farm, where they discovered three other bodies.
The alleged shooter surrendered at a sheriff’s substation. He was recognized as Chunli Zhou, a 67-year-old local of Half Moon Bay. According to authorities, a firearm thought to have been used in the shootings was discovered in his car.
Sheriff Christina Corpus of San Mateo County said at a news conference on Monday night that no one knew what caused the deaths. According to her, Zhou was an employee at one of the places and seemed to act alone.
According to the White House, President Biden received a briefing on the shooting.
According to Press Secretary Karine Jean-tweet, Pierre “has asked federal law enforcement to provide any necessary assistance to the local authorities.” “The President will be updated when new information becomes available.”
The shooting happened just days after another shooter killed 11 people and hurt many others at a Lunar New Year party at a dance studio in Monterey Park, California, over the weekend.
