One Missouri police officer was killed, another was injured, and authorities are looking for the suspect they believe to be responsible.
Earlier than 9:20 p.m. on Sunday, Hermann Police Department Detective Sergeant Mason Griffith and another officer were shot outside a general store.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol issued a Blue Alert in response to the incident and was requested to investigate it. Kenneth Lee Simpson, 35, was the gunman, according to MSHP, and a spokeswoman told Fox News Digital that he made his getaway on foot.
Although it has not been confirmed, information obtained by investigators led them to assume that Simpson barricaded himself inside a house directly across the street from the incident scene.
A bullhorn outside the house was heard saying, “Come out with your hands up and nothing will happen to you,” according to the media present.
One of the offers was shot in the head, and the other in the chest, a source said KMOV-TV. Both were flown to a medical facility.
At the hospital, Detective Sergeant Griffith passed away. Although the identity of the second cop who was shot is unknown, his condition is said to be critical but stable.
According to reports, Simpson has a lengthy criminal past going all the way back to 2004 with numerous charges still unresolved. He is said to have fled from law enforcement since April 2022.
