Senator Roger Marshall, a Republican from Kansas, made a recent trip to the southern border and assisted a migrant who was suffering from heat exhaustion. Senator Marshall claimed that this encounter illuminated the “unsustainable humanitarian crisis” that is occurring at the border.
Dr. Marshall, who was accompanying a group of Kansas sheriffs on a trip to the Texas border, rode with officers of the Border Patrol in a region of the country where illegal immigrants are being smuggled into the country and then picked up by others. In this hazardous territory, migrants, many of whom have already traveled thousands of kilometers, are put in potentially life-threatening situations.
