Chelsea was named champions of the median Premier League Summer series held in the United States after beating Fulham 2-0 on Saturday.
The Blues won against Wrexham, Brighton, and Fulham and drew with Newcastle United to emerge winners in the summer preseason tournament.
Two Chelsea stars have caught the eyes of Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino with their performance during the preseason tournament. Chelsea record signing Enzo Fernandez and teenager lan Maatsen has received praise from their manager.
What did Mauricio Pochettino say about Enzo Fernandez and lan Maatsen?
The Argentine tactician said at a press conference: “Always it is a pleasure to have Fernandez.
“He is very humble, he is a fighter also and is a fantastic player, world champion with Argentina and I am so proud.
“I am Argentine also and I shared happiness when they won the World Cup. It is a pleasure when you have a player like him in the squad.”
On Ian Maatsen, he added: “He has the capacity to compete for different places on the pitch.
“He is a player you can use in different positions. I am so happy because his performance didn’t change.
“That is what makes us really pleased because he is a player we see with enormous potential for the team.”
Reacting to winning his first trophy as a Chelsea manager, he said: “Always it is good to win, I am so pleased again with the performance and the work of the players from the start. It is a busy time but I think we are doing a good job, the players and the staff.
“It has been a busy four games in a very short period of time and now we play in Chicago against Dortmund and we need to continue.
“We keep going and prepare the team to arrive in the best condition for the Premier League.”
The Chelsea Head coach also had special words for Carney Chukwuemeka and Goalkeeper duo Burstow and Slonina.
Pochettino tipped Chukwuemeka for greatness, saying: “He’s a player that can play in-between No.10 and No.8.
“He’s a very talented player, very good quality. In our dynamic, he can use different spaces on the pitch.”
On the two young goalkeepers, he added: “[Burstow] is a young player, it’s a good opportunity for him to start. We can only trust the players to see them play. It’s a good opportunity for him and our fans to see him.
“Slonina has had a very short period of time working with us. All the information we have is very good. It’s a good opportunity to see him. Kepa [Arrizabalaga] needs a rest.”
Chelsea’s next preseason game will be against Borussia Dortmund on 3rd August in The United States.
