Chelsea player of the season Mason Mount has revealed that he could have performed in England’s 1-1 draw against Italy in the Nations League match at the Molineux Stadium on Saturday.
Mason Mount is yet to score in his last 12 outings for the England national team and has started in all England’s last three Nations League games. The three lions are last in a group that has Italy, Germany, and Hungary. despite England dominating the game and creating better chances, they could not finish off Italy
What did Mason Mount say in his performance?
Speaking after the match, the Chelsea player said: “It is frustrating, Obviously we want to win, we want to create chances, we want to score goals.
“I probably should have done better with my chance, we had a few other chances so it’s something that we need to look at. We have created chances but we should have done better with them, we’re keeping clean sheets so that’s a positive but we need to keep working at it.
“I was in a no.10 role so it gave me more freedom to roam, find spaces, try to link the midfield to the attacking boys. I found myself in some space to shoot a couple of times but I didn’t do well enough with my shots. It was too easy for the keeper.
“I need to look for the corners. It’s a difficult one to take because I feel we could come away with more from the game and we’re frustrated with the performance.”
Mason Mount admits England is going through a rough patch now and claims they have the player and talents to turn things around.
Mason Mount added: “Sometimes you go through those little periods where it is difficult.
“The only thing we can do is keep working hard in training, keep staying focused, look at the chances, look where we can improve. We’ve got the players to do that, we have the talent and quality so it just keeps working at it.”
Meanwhile, Gareth Southgate admits there is more room for improvement after England’s 1-1 draw with Italy.
The England head coach said: “There were things we did well in Germany and things that we needed to improve upon. We improved upon a lot of those things today.
“Getting the ball through their midfield press and into the next line we were much better at and we have had two or three really good chances that we need to score and we just lack that little bit of sharpness in the final third.
“But the general performance I was pleased with and I felt there were a lot of positive individual performances, players that we needed to see who has gone in and done well.
“So at the moment that little bit of sharpness isn’t there, but I was pleased with the general performance.”
England’s next game is against Hungary on Tuesday.
