Authorities in Minnesota are looking into a landslide that killed a 19-year-old over the weekend in a state park.
On Saturday, the Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office reported in a Facebook post that they got a 911 call reporting a landslide near Minneopa State Park’s falls area.
“Someone was trapped under the earth that had collapsed,” according to the statement.
According to the sheriff’s office, emergency workers retrieved a 19-year-old guy who had died.
The sheriff’s office provided no further information.
Minneopa State Park is located in Mankato, Minnesota, approximately 82 miles southwest of Minneapolis.
According to the park’s website, Minneopa Creek and its waterfalls are the main draw for tourists.
According to the United States Geological Survey, landslide-prone areas in Minnesota are generally near steep slopes next to rivers, lakes, and traffic routes.
