Frenkie De Jong was Erik Ten Hag and Manchester United’s transfer target for last summer but Manchester United failed to land the Dutch international and was willing to spend more than £80 million to sign him from Barcelona.
Manchester United’s failure to sign, made them opt for Christain Eriksen and Casemiro. However, there are no indications that Manchester United has dropped its pursuit of the Dutch midfielder. Taking into account, Frenkie De Jong’s lacking playing time at Barcelona as Xavi prefers the midfield combination of Pedri, Gavi, and Busquets.
There are rumors that Manchester United will seek De Jong again in the winter transfer in their bid to boast their squad for the second round of the campaign.
However, the Former Manchester United striker has warned his former club that too many midfielders in one team creates unnecessary competition, especially looking at the form of Casemiro.
He also urged Manchester United to get rid of Donny Van de Beek as the former Ajax captain has failed to live up to the expectation since his move to Manchester United.
What did Louis Saha say?
The former Manchester United and French striker said on Paddy Power: “Frenkie de Jong would be a good signing for Manchester United because he’s a great player! He did well at the World Cup and is very composed.
“But, if Casemiro keeps the form he had for Brazil at the World Cup, there isn’t a single player in the world better than him. His aggression and composure are at the top, and that’s how I see it.
“Competition in the squad is good but having so many midfielders isn’t always healthy.
“Donny van de Beek hasn’t played particularly well and if United wants to bring in de Jong, there will have to be some departures.
“Frenkie de Jong is a massive player and Erik ten Hag is going to have some difficult decisions to make.
“Manchester United want to be at the top and those kinds of signings would be massive, but they’re not the right signings to make in the middle of the season.”
Meanwhile, Paul Parker has revealed that Manchester United cannot rely on Anthony Martial.
He said BeMyBet: “I really hope that Anthony Martial will start to live up to all the hype and the potential he actually had when he arrived from AS Monaco.
“He is 27 years old so he should be at his peak now.
“I really expect him to want to prove a point now but all he has proven so far in his career is that he is able to have the longest injury period.
“He is really good at being injured, you got to give that to him. This is the moment for him now and it is his last chance at Man United.
“But honestly, I don´t trust him and I don’t trust that he will play through that pain that he deems to have all the time.”
“But Man United needs to go and get a new center forward. He needs a player to compete with, also because ten Hag cannot rely on him as the only center forward.”
Manchester needs to sign a striker to complement Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo.
