Graham’s remarks come after the United States Navy shot down two ballistic missiles in the Red Sea.
Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-South Carolina, alleged the Biden administration is “failing” US troops in the field in the aftermath of the Israel-Hamas battle.
“Fox & Friends” substitute presenter Carley Shimkus asked Graham what has led to substantial escalation in the region, citing attacks on US forces in Iraq and Syria, as well as attacks on foreign vessels in the Red Sea.
“Weakness,” Graham said. “We’re battling the Houthis.” We defeated both the Germans and the Japanese. The Houthis should be defeated. The failure of Secretary Austin and the Biden administration to support our troops in the field.”
While Graham praised Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin, calling him a “great patriot,” he did not believe he was doing a good job of defending American soldiers.
“Iran is completely behind the Houthis.” I’ve been saying for six months that we should attack Iran. They have open-air oil fields. They have the headquarters of the Revolutionary Guard. “You can see it from space, and it will blow it off the map,” Graham added. “If you really want to protect American soldiers, make it real to the Ayatollah.”
According to a senior defense official, the US Navy fired down anti-ship ballistic missiles launched by incoming Iran-backed Houthi missiles in the Red Sea on Tuesday.
Since Oct. 17, around 100 drones controlled by the Houthis have been shot down. The organization has assaulted over 21 international vessels in the region, causing global shipping to be affected.
Three US service members were injured in Iraq on Christmas Day when terrorists with Kataib Hezbollah, an Iranian proxy, assaulted Erbil Air Base. One of those injured was critically hurt.
In response, US forces launched airstrikes on three installations in Iraq utilized by Kataib Hezbollah and allied factions, according to Austin.
Graham referred to terrorists in the Middle East as “religious Nazis” and stated that while he does not believe 100,000 US troops are required to fight them, the US does require “some.”
“That’s the only way to be safe in this war,” he told reporters. “And people in the region will change over time.” Saudi Arabia is changing. I wish I had an easy answer. There is no other option but to combat them over there properly.”
