In 1994, Smith killed her two infant kids in a lake in South Carolina.
Thirty years after drowning her two young kids, Susan Smith is set to have her first chance at parole this autumn. However, accounts of her romantic relationships while incarcerated suggest that she still views people as “disposable,” according to one expert.
On November 4, three decades to the day after Smith, now 51, admitted to drowning her three-year-old son Michael Daniel and her fourteen-month-old son Alexander Tyler in a lake in South Carolina, she will have her first parole hearing.
The prosecution said that a week after Smith’s ex-boyfriend and potential lover, Tom Findlay, wrote a letter complaining about her sons being a hindrance, Smith became motivated to kill her boys.
“Susan, I might get sucked into your world. However, as I’ve already mentioned, there are certain aspects of you that I find inappropriate—yes, even your kids—”he wrote, as reported by Deseret News.
