Desk organization has always been difficult for a lot of people to grasp. If you want to make sure that you do what you can to stop things from being too overwhelming, then this is the guide for you. Here you will find out what you can do to try and turn things around for the better.
Keep your Laptop in Front of You
The first thing that you need to do is make sure that your laptop is always in front of you. A lot of people choose to have their computer off to one side, but the issue with this is that it won’t help you to concentrate. You may find that you end up experiencing fatigue as a result and that you are not able to stay as focused as you’d like. Ideally, you need around 1.5 feet between you and the screen. As for computer cords, it is wise for you to tie them together so you can keep those pesky wires at bay.
Finding a desk of the right size and proportions can take some scouring. However, the range available at cheap furniture stores online will mean that it’s likely you will settle on something to suit your space and needs. The best thing about doing this is that you will be able to stay focused, and you can even purchase something that facilitates your newfound passion for organization.
Put the Things you Use Near to your Dominant Hand
If possible, you need to try and put all of the things that you know you use near to your dominant hand. If you have the phone on your left-hand side, even though you are right-handed, then this will make it harder for you to answer it, and you may even find that it is much more difficult for you to get things done. Storage options are ideal here as they give you the chance to clear some of your desk space so you can make room for everything else.
Keep What you Need
If you can, you have to make sure that you are limiting what you need. You need to limit yourself to a single pen, not a whole pen holder. Try to keep some binder clips and not a thousand of them. You probably don’t need a lot of sticky notes either. In fact, it will be taking up valuable space at your desk. If you want to do something about this, then limit what you have and also take note of what it is you actually need. If you can do this, you will soon find that keeping your desk organized becomes easier simply because you have way fewer items to manage.
Group Items Together
Another thing that you have to do is try and group any similar items together. Unless you need a lot of office supplies, you may find that you can fit them all in a single drawer. Keep one office drawer for all of your supplies, and make sure that they are multifunctional so you can mix and match when required.
