Chelsea dropped to ninth place on the Premier League table after their 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest at the City Grounds. The blues are seven points adrift from the top four places and 18 points behind current leaders Arsenal.
Koulibaly, who partnered Thiago Silva in matches against Nottingham Forest has admitted that Chelsea were poor in the second but insisted that the blues can still make top four.
What did Kalidou Koulibaly say about Chelsea’s top-four chances?
The Senegalese international said after Chelsea’s draw with Nottingham Forest: “It’s going to be a big challenge [to finish in the top four] but we like a challenge and we always believe in ourselves.
“We have to embrace it, we have to believe in ourselves and work hard to improve. We will get ready to face Man City, which will be a tough game but we will do everything to win this match and move forward.
“We’re disappointed not to get the three points because we always go into games wanting to win.
“In the first half, we did quiet and looked in control but in the second half, they came at us with more aggression and more positivity in their play. Forest made things difficult for us, we couldn’t keep a clean sheet and this was disappointing.
“It’s a tough stadium to play at. They haven’t lost here for a long time and they’ve already beaten some good teams here.
“We’re disappointed because we want to win every game but we have to take this point and prepare now for Man City. We have to keep on working hard.”
Meanwhile, CBS Sports Journalist Ben Jacobs reveals Graham Potter’s Job is safe at Chelsea.
He wrote in a Column on Si & Dan Talk Chelsea: “When Graham Potter moved to Chelsea, he was told the board backed him to help deliver a long-term vision. Part of the appeal of leaving Brighton was to join an ambitious project with patient owners.
“The whole point of hiring Potter was a belief he was the right fit, both as a coach but also within a newly-built recruitment team. It’s Potter’s role in the latter that will probably buy him time.
“Potter met with Chelsea co-owner Behdad Eghabli during the World Cup break and left even more confident Chelsea’s owners aren’t going to react to this poor run of form.
“January is a key month for Potter, though. Missing out on Champions League football, but showing progress and a clear identity is one thing. But falling into the bottom half of the table and thus potentially missing out on the top four by a big distance is another thing altogether.”
Chelsea under Todd Boehly Led consortium wants to emulate want Manchester City did with Pep Guardiola and Liverpool with Jurgen Klopp. Todd Boehly had said on numerous occasions that Graham Potter was hired because he fits well with their vision for the Club.
