According to ESPN, Arsenal has finalized the signing of attacker Kai Havertz from Chelsea in a deal worth up to £67.5 million ($85.4 million).
The German international has signed a long-term contract with Arsenal, becoming the club’s first signing of the summer window.
“Kai is a top-tier player.” He is a really versatile and savvy player. “He will add a lot of extra strength and variety to our midfield,” Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta stated.
“We welcome Kai and his family to Arsenal Football Club and are all excited to start working with him when pre-season training begins soon.”
Havertz has struggled to regularly display the match-winning talent he showed at Bayer Leverkusen before joining the Premier League club for an initial £62 million ($78.4m) in 2020.
The highlight of Havertz’s Chelsea career was unquestionably his match-winning goal in the 2021 Champions League final against Manchester City, which delivered the club’s second European Cup.
“It’s an honor to be joining this incredible club and to be a part of the Arsenal family,” Havertz said. “This club has such a rich history, and I hope we can accomplish a lot.”
“You can sense the high level of mentality in the Arsenal squad.” That’s one of the reasons it’s been so difficult to play against Arsenal recently.
“The goal is to win trophies, and I’ll do everything in my power to do so for the fans and everyone at the club.” “I’m looking forward to meeting all of the players and staff when we return for preseason.”
According to ESPN, Havertz notified Chelsea last week that he had no desire to sign a new deal with the club; he is expected to make his Arsenal debut against Nottingham Forest on August 12.
Havertz’s exit from Chelsea comes as the club’s owners, Clearlake Capital and Todd Boehly, want to reduce their squad size ahead of the arrival of new head coach Mauricio Pochettino.
Chelsea have already lost N’Golo Kante, Kalidou Koulibally, and Edouard Mendy to Saudi Pro League clubs, while Hakim Ziyech, Christian Pulisic, and Mason Mount have all been linked with moves elsewhere.
