Jurgen Klopp has compared Liverpool’s draw at Manchester City to a ‘boxing fight’.
The clash dubbed ‘the title decider’ ended 2-2 as the two teams shared the spoils. This will be the second time this season that the two clubs have played in a 2-2 draw. the first was at Anfield in October.
Man City lead Liverpool with one point with seven matches still left to play for in the Premier League, The host took the lead through Kevin De Bruyne in the fifth minute before Diego Jota equalized for Liverpool. Gabriel Jesus made it 2-1 before the halftime break. Just a minute into the second half, Sadio Mane equalized, but Raheem Sterling’s strike was called out for offside.
What did Klopp say?
Speaking to Sky Sports, Klopp said: “What a game…wild.
“I think we can describe it as a boxing fight, both arms down for a second and you get a massive knock, you shake a little bit, and then the next knock is coming from the other team.
“I thought we were closer than ever, in the moments when we played football and took control of the game we were dangerous. That’s how we scored the goals.
“City tried to use a couple of things [tactics] like balls in behind which makes sense.
“In the moments we tried to breathe a little bit, bam, the next one came.”
Klopp also claimed that Man City’s second goal of the game was offside, although it was not ruled out by VAR: “I think they were lucky with the goal [Gabriel Jesus’ goal], it was offside, I heard.
“Great game and a result we have to live with and can live with.”
