According to Page Six, John Mulaney and his wife of nearly seven years, Anna Marie Tendler, have decided to divorce. The 38-year-old comedian and former Saturday Night Live writer reportedly filed for divorce about three months ago. John previously sought treatment for previous addiction issues at the end of 2020. Both parties’ representatives were contacted by HollywoodLife.
A spokesperson for John told Page Six, “John will not have any further comment as he continues to focus on his recovery and getting back to work.” Anna, a textile, photography, and other mediums artist, also made a statement to the outlet. “I am heartbroken that John has decided to divorce me,” she said. “I wish him the best of luck and support as he continues his recovery.”
John entered rehab for a 60-day stay in December to deal with cocaine and alcohol addiction. Previously, the comedian has openly discussed his addiction struggles in his Netflix comedy specials, including New In Town, The Comeback Kid, and Kid Gorgeous. During his specials, the Emmy winner has also discussed his relationship with Anna.
In the run-up to the couple’s difficult announcement that their marriage was ending, John announced a schedule for his return to comedy. According to Variety, the comedian and writer will perform a residency titled “John Mulaney: From Scratch” at Manhattan’s City Winery from May 10 to 14. The shows will be socially distant, in accordance with CDC guidelines in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
This July 2021, John and Anna would have celebrated their seventh wedding anniversary. The couple had been dating since the early 2010s and married in 2014. John and Anna shared a French bulldog named Petunia and lived in New York City.
