Jerry Cantrell began singing the main vocals on the 1992 EP Sap by Alice in Chains. After Staley died in 2002, Cantrell assumed the role of lead singer on the majority of the band’s post-Staley albums, Rainier Fog (2018) and Black Gives Way to Blue (2009), with DuVall harmonizing with him in the new songs and performing Staley’s vocals in the old songs during live performances. He also had a solo career, releasing Degradation Trip Volumes 1 & 2 in 2002 and Boggy Depot in 1998.
Brighten, his third solo album, was released in 2021. Cantrell has also worked with and played with Heart, Ozzy Osbourne, Circus of Power, Metal Church, Gov’t Mule, Damageplan, Pearl Jam, Metallica, Pantera, The Cult, Stone Temple Pilots, Duff McKagan, Danzig, Glenn Hughes, and Deftones, to name a few.
