Amateur career
Floyd competed as a national amateur boxer before turning professional, finishing his time in the unpaid ranks with a record of 84 wins against eight losses. He won the Golden Glove Championships in 1993 and then again in 1994 and 1996. In 1996 he also travelled to the Olympic Games, where he scored a bronze medal after losing a semi-final bout in controversial circumstances.
Professional career
