The House Select Committee investigating the disturbance at the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021, unanimously voted on Thursday to subpoena former President Donald Trump.
Seven Democrats and two anti-Trump Republicans on the committee voted to compel the former president to testify about his actions leading up to and during the attack.
“This is about accountability to the American people,” committee Chairman Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., said. “He must answer to the millions of Americans whose votes he tried to suppress as part of his plan to stay in power.”
Trump has previously refused to participate with the panel, describing it as a politicized witch hunt. Not only has Trump refused to cooperate with the committee, but he has also pressured political supporters and former White House aides to do the same.
