Former Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has revealed that Tottenham €60 million signing Richarlison will not make the Arsenal starting eleven.
Richarlison completed a €60 million move to Tottenham Hotspurs on Friday from Everton. The North London club had to beat competition from Chelsea and Arsenal. The 25-year-old Brazilian became Tottenham’s fourth signing of the summer.
The Brazillian international was instrumental in Everton’s survival in the Premier League last season scoring 10 goals in 30 Premier League appearances for Everton. Richarlison will join a star-studded Tottenham Hotspurs attack made of Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, and Dejan Kulusevski.
What did Jack Wilshere say?
Speaking on talk SPORTS, the former Arsenal and England midfielder said: “I think he improves the squad, definitely… he gives them something different.
“I wouldn’t say I’m gutted [he’s not signed for Arsenal].
“He’s 25, so not young. There comes a point where you’re going to have to turn that potential into something but to be fair if anyone can do it, it’s Antonio Conte.
“I wouldn’t say I’m devastated as an Arsenal fan but he could be one to watch, he could be really good.”
When Jack Wilshere was quizzed if he would love Richarlison at Arsenal, Wilshere said: “Yeah but I don’t think he gets in the XI.
He’d definitely challenge for it and be a good part of the squad but I don’t think he gets in the XI.”
Tottenham Hotspurs have sent a strong message to the other Premier League clubs that they are ready to challenge Manchester City and Liverpool for the Premier League title next season. Tottenham finished fourth in the Premier League and will be playing in the Champions League next season.
Meanwhile, Paul Merson does not see why Tottenham Hotspurs are spending big on the Summer transfer.
The former Arsenal player said via Sportskeeda: “Spurs have bought very, very well this summer and they aren’t quite finished.
“Reports suggest they’ve agreed on a deal to sign Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet on loan, while the deal to sign Brazilian striker Richarlison is also close to completion.
“Personally, I don’t see why they are splashing the big bucks on the latter, as he’d effectively replace Dejan Kulusevski in the starting lineup, who was outstanding in the second half of last season.”
Richarlison has issued a heartfelt message to Everton fans on Twitter following his €60 million move to Tottenham Hotspurs
The 25-year-old Brazilian international said via Twitter: “It’s very difficult to say goodbye to a place that has become my home; fans who welcomed me as if I were one of them; and a club that treated me kindly and helped me develop my sense of community and empathy.
“Not all the love I have is enough to thank you. Love you!”
